C-Peptidesblog_1.jpg
All known C-peptide sequences have a highly conserved peptide sequence Glu/Asp-X-Glu/Asp, where X is a hydrophobic amino acid (alanine, valine or leucine). C-peptide is important for insulin biosynthesis. At nanomolar concentration range, it binds specifically to cell surfaces, most likely to a G protein-coupled surface receptor, and activates Ca2+ dependent intracellular signaling pathways.
